Pour Some Sugar on Me!

Rating: DIRT CHEAP
With the winter cold comes winter skin. Unfortunately the blistering cold does absolute terror to our gentle and sometimes sensitive skin, leaving it dry, flaking and oh so dull! And during these hard economic times, we sometimes can't find the time and money to spend on magic exfoliants made specificly to scrub away those irritating flakes left behind from the harsh winds. So what is a pampered princess on a budget to do?

Make her own scrubs for half the price. :) Of course...

I've found two of the easiest recipes for do-it-yourself, at home body scrubs made from the cheapest and most accesible products laying around in your kitchen and bathroom cabinets. Don't worry, with these simple basic scrubs you won't have to worry about irritating your skin or worry about irritating your wallet.

Body Scrub Recipe #1: Sugar and Conditioner
All you need for this concoction is a cup of sugar and a half a cup of your regular hair conditioner. That's it! Now...of course don't go using the thickest sugar you can find because that's just going to hurt. Opt for the very thin granulated sugar that you use for everyday cooking. Also, try using brown sugar as it will give you a more sweeter aromatic experience. For the conditioner, use any kind that is moisturizing and thick. And if you don't have conditioner laying around (which you should because the winter can also reak havic on your hair) use some body wash or shampoo. The conditioner however is more moisturizing and will leave your skin feeling soft.

Body Scrub Recipe #2: Salt and Olive Oil
You might want to go a little easy on this one because Olive Oil can be a little expensive, but it reaps so many benefits for the skin. Salt is another great exfoliant because it gets the blood moving and it relaxes the muscles. So if you have achy muscles this is a great recipe for you. Once again, mix a cup of salt with a half a cup of Olive Oil and slather all over you skin!

You can use sugar and salt with almost any kind of oil or moisturizing soap to create the most beneficial body scrub of your choice. Don't be afraid to mix and match. Try experimenting with different scented oils, fruit extract oils, and even cooking oil! You can also try using coffee grains as an exfoliant. As mentioned before in an earlier post Don't Throw that Java Away Just Yet, coffee may help you reduce the appearance of cellulite as well as help you scrub away dull dry skin. Go ahead get creative! Don't let these winter blue get the best of your skin...
